Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Officials say the confirmed number of cyclosporiasis cases linked to an ongoing outbreak could be higher than eleven-thousand. The CDC provided a recent update announcing that over four-thousand cases have been linked to the outbreak across 41 states.
According to officials, “many of the additional cases have been reported by Michigan and Ohio,” but the FDA maintains that while dozens of states are impacted, the outbreak investigation has been predominately linked to “at least” five states: Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky. Other states such as North Carolina and Kansas have also seen a recent spike in cases. Cyclosporiasis cases are typically reported between May and August each year, but it is usually only a handful or a few dozen.
