Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham City Council met for their regular meeting on Tuesday and discussed a variety of items.
Effingham City Council members spent part of Tuesday’s meeting recognizing recent tourism efforts they say are bringing more people into the community. Tourism Director Jodi Thoele credited the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce for HAM-JAM and Deano Tull for Ham City Jam. She said Tull is also looking at smaller events that would highlight skating and the expanded skate park at Hendelmeyer Park.
The council also reviewed plans for Downtown Cruise Night, set for September 11th and 12th.
In economic development action, the council approved a one-year, $110K contribution to the Effingham Regional Growth Alliance, named Commissioner Libby Moeller and Economic Development Director Sasha Althoff to the Alliance board, committed $50K per year for three years to CORE Academy vocational training, and approved a $292K grant for Arts Connection of Central Illinois, operator of the Effingham Performance Center.
