Farina, IL-(Effingham Radio)-Â On Tuesday, April 16th, 28 members of South Central FFA went on their annual local ag business tours around Marion and Bond Counties.
The chapter began their day by visiting Gerstenecker’s Farm in Vernon. Students were taught about the process of growing, harvesting, and marketing horseradishes and also got to witness the farmers harvesting the rest of their crops.
Rolling Lawns Dairy Farm in Greenville was the second stop on the trip. This dairy farm specializes in processing and marketing its milk and ice cream to restaurants,grocery stores and also has its storefront called The Milkhouse. During the tour, the students learned about the making and processing center.
Greenville Livestock Auction Facility was the final stop, where students were given a tour of the facility and got to learn how sale barns operate. All three operations were family-owned and operated, and students were able to see the great diversity of different types of agriculture in their area.
