Altamont traveled to Pana on Tuesday for opening night and went home with the 61-54 victory. It was Pana who had the lead after one quarter of play 16-15. Then Altamont would commit 10 turnovers to begin the 2nd quarter to increase their lead to 12 at point. But the Indians would close the quarter strong and forced some turnovers themselves, to only trailing by three at the half 30-27.
Altamont’s Erick Kollmann had himself a great game. He would finish with 20 points, 11 of them came in the first half. But not only just the points but the defense and getting after the loose basketballs.
Pana would extend their lead out to five 46-41 after third quarter.
Then the game was won in fourth quarter. The Indians outscored Pana 20-8 and Mason Robinson made a clutch three to tie the game at 50. Tyler Robbins scored a tying basket to tie the game at 54. Then Robinson would make another basket to put the Indians up for good. The rest was closed out at the free throw line.
Altamont improves to 1-0 on the young season and take the rest of Thanksgiving holidays off and are back at it next Tuesday at Cumberland.
Other “Sparks” Notes
- At least after one game Eric Kollmann is going to be a problem for the rest of the teams on the schedule
- Looks like all the close games last year paid off Robinson, Klimpel, Winn, Robbins all made clutch baskets
- Noah Klimpel with a quite 20 points
- Pana just like 2019 when Altamont beat them in the first game Panthers are going to win a lot of games but not on this night
- Coach Niebrugge credited in the postgame to the conditioning of the Indians in the fourth quarter that earned them the win
