Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The chance of severe weather is low, but not completely ruled out as the rain moves through.
The threat of any strong to severe storms today will mainly be from mid afternoon into early evening. This is most likely south of I-72 ahead of a cold front, and a level 1 risk of severe weather continues in this area. Any severe weather would likely be in the form of brief damaging winds. While the severe weather threat is low, locally heavy rain will accompany the stronger storms.
With a cold front slipping southward today, expect a wide range in temperatures. Highs in the 90s are expected again near and south of I-72, while locations northwest of the Illinois River only reach around 80 degrees. As the front will take some time to fully push through the area, rain chances today will be highest further north, then near and south of I-72/Danville tonight into Thursday morning. After a dry Friday, scattered showers and storms will again be possible this weekend, mainly north of I-72/Danville.
