Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- UPDATE – GAS LEAK CONTROLLED
Original Story:
The Effingham Fire Department and Ameren Illinois are currently on scene of an active natural gas leak near Fayette Avenue and Linden Street.
Due to current wind conditions, the odor of natural gas may be noticeable east of the leak toward Maple Street and surrounding areas.
Emergency personnel are aware of the leak, and Ameren and fire crews are actively working to control the situation.
Residents do not need to call 911 or Ameren solely to report the outdoor odor of natural gas associated with this known incident.
Please continue to avoid the immediate area while crews are working.
Residents should still call 911 if they experience an odor of natural gas inside a home or business, hear escaping gas, observe a fire or other immediate hazard, or believe they are in immediate danger.
