Lake Shelbyville, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Lake Shelbyville’s tree stand policy for this year will remain the same as last season’s policy.
The policy allows hunters to leave one stand up for the season, referred to as a seasonal tree stand, and/or use up to two roving stands that may be left up during archery season for no more than 72 hours without use, or the length of a three-day weekend. Seasonal tree stands may be placed two weeks before archery season and must be removed within two weeks after archery season ends. Archery season runs from Oct. 1, 2026, through Jan. 17, 2027.
Hunters wishing to purchase a seasonal tree stand permit must present a valid hunting license before a permit is issued. Seasonal tree stand permits will be available for purchase for $30 by credit or debit card at the Lake Shelbyville Project Office, 1989 State Hwy. 16, Shelbyville, Illinois, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Roving tree stand permits are free and may be obtained in Sullivan, Illinois, at Ace Hardware, Chip’s Marine, or Sullivan 66, formerly Howy’s Lakeside, located five miles south of Sullivan on Highway 32. Hunters may also pick up roving tree stand permits at the Lake Shelbyville Project Office, Ace Hardware and Craig’s Sporting Goods in Shelbyville.
