On July 12, 2026, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into an individual who is subject to the Sex Offender Registration Act and was believed to be in non-compliance. The sheriff’s office forwarded the investigation to the Clay County State’s Attorney’s Office and requested a warrant for the individual.
As a result of the investigation a warrant was issued for Michael W. Persinger Jr, 44, of Flora, for the offense of Unlawful Failure of Sex Offender to Notify. On July 17, 2026, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Flora Police Department and U.S. Marshal Service arrested Persinger on the warrant. Persinger was transported to the Clay County Jail.
On July 20, 2026, Persinger appeared in Clay County Court and was granted Pretrial Release under the “Safe-T Act”.
The charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
