Cumberland Defeats Rushville 34-8; Advance To Second Round

It was a come from behind  victory for the Cumberland Pirates as they defeated Rushville 34-8.

Cumberland trailed by a point after the first quarter 8-7 but the Pirate defense wouldn’t allow another score and forced 2 turnovers the rest of the way. Cumberland led 14-8 at the half thanks to a touchdown run each from Blake McMechan and Ross McBride.

McMechan would add another score in the third quarter and Cumberland would add two more scores in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Cumberland got their first playoff win since 2017 and their first home playoff win since 2005. Cumberland also got their 4th playoff win in school history. Cumberland will now advance to play 9-1 Greenfield Northwest Co-op in Greenfield on Saturday at 2 PM.
