Cumberland’s season started with a loss to Shelbyville 38-14.
Cumberland’s offense couldn’t get going and the defense couldn’t stop Shelbyville’s Junior quarterback Brody Boehm who had 4 touchdowns on the night. Cumberland also didn’t help themselves with 6 penalties and 3 turnovers on the night.
The 24 point loss is Cumberland’s worst loss since week 2 of the 2019 season when Cumberland lost 27-7 to Argenta. It is also Cumberland’s first week 1 loss since 2017. This is also the first time since 2017 that Cumberland has a losing record.
The Pirates will look to turn it around next week when they take on 1-0 Tuscola.
