Avery Jahraus Makes Go Ahead Three In Altamont’s Come Back Win Over Nokomis

Altamont traveled to Nokomis on Friday in a matchup of what could be a potential postseason matchup. As the atmosphere sure felt like a postseason game. Nokomis lead for 95% of the game but as the final buzzer sounded it was Altamont who came back on top,  winning 53-49.

The start of the game started out back and fourth like everyone thought it would. Avery Jahraus would get off to a great start for Altamont. As Jahraus scored six of the teams eight points. The first quarter would see Nokomis coming out in the narrow lead.  The Redskins got four from Elijah Aumann and a three pointer by Kennedy DeWerff to put Nokomis in front 10-8 after one.

The Nokomis 1-2-2 zone really was giving the Indians some problems as they were taking Altamont out of what the Indians were wanting to do. Reece Lohman pounded the block button several times swatting shots down left and right.  The defense plus Aumann got it going in the second pouring in seven. Nokomis would surge ahead 21-10 at one point.  Altamont would try to get back into it with a three from Dillan Elam.  But Nokomis still held the 27-19 at the half.

Out of halftime Nokomis still controlled the game with balanced scoring and good defense again. Despite the good defensive effort,  Elam was able to connect on a pair of threes. Mason Robinson would makes his presence known as he returned into the rotation off the bench scoring four. Altamont clawed back into it trailing 39-33 after three.

Then in the fourth quartet thing would get interesting.

With Altamont trailing 41-37, Aumann would make a huge three to extend the lead only for a moment though.  As Jahraus would answer with a three of his own to make it 44-40.  A couple of possessions later DeWerff would make his second three of the game to put Nokomis back up 47-40,  Altamont would come storming back with some buckets by Robinson.   With Altamont trailing, Eric Kollmann finished an and one as Altamont would trail 49-45. The Indians would inch closer with a back door to Logan Cornett.  As Logan would finish thru contact for the and one opportunity. Cornett would not make the free throw but Altamont trailed 49-47.

Altamont thought they had tied the game on a steal and layup from Elam.  Only for the basket to be waived off as Elam was called for a travel.

That would setup  Avery Jahraus to hit the biggest shot of the game.

With 40 seconds to go Jahraus would make a three to put Altamont in front for the first time since the first quarter 50-49.

Aumann would miss a tough awkward three pointer and Jahraus plus Robinson would make free throws to close out the game. Altamont probably held the lead for less than 90 seconds but Altamont would come out with the huge win 53-49.

Altamont improves to 21-3 on the season. The win streak comes to 16 games and Altamont is back in action on Tuesday traveling for rematch from the NTC Tournament with Neoga.

Nokomis falls to 22-6 overall.
