WHAT:
- Fatal Traffic Crash
WHERE:
- US 51 south of Bowen Road, Marion County
WHEN:
- April 3, 2022 at approximately 5:02 p.m.
VEHICLES:
- Unit 1– Black 2009 Harley Davidson Motorcycle
- Unit 2- Gray 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup
DRIVERS:
- Unit 1- Robert E. Watson, 45-year-old male from Centralia, IL – Deceased
- Unit 2- John J. Schuessler, 65-year-old male from Decatur, IL
PASSENGER:
- Unit 1- Ruby R. Morgan, 39-year-old female from Centralia, IL – Airlifted to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
- Unit 2- Andrew E. Schuessler, 34,-year-old male from Decatur, IL
PRELIMINARY:
- A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling southbound on US 51 near Bowen Road in Marion County. Unit 2 was traveling northbound on US 51 near the same location. For unknown reasons, Unit 1 driver lost control of the motorcycle and struck Unit 2 head-on after crossing into the northbound lane. The driver of Unit 1 was pronounced deceased on scene by the Marion County Coroner.
