EFFINGHAM, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Today is May 4th, also widely known as Star Wars Day.
According to Lucasfilm Ltd. “”May the 4th be with you.” What started as pun warmly shared by fans has become a full-fledged Star Wars holiday: Star Wars Day, a special once-a-year celebration of the galaxy far, far away.”
This hilarious pun has dated back as far as 1979 when it was said by author Alan Arnold while talking about the making of The Empire Strikes Back.
In that same year, when Margaret Thatcher became Britain’s First Ever Female Prime Minister, in celebration her recognized party purchased a half page add with the words: ‘May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations,’
The holiday has since become a worldwide celebration of fandom, with everyone from Hollywood, sports, etc. celebrating the iconic franchise.

The love of Star Wars has even hit close to home with many local business acknowledging and celebrating the holiday:
On a personal note, I have been a huge fan of star wars since I waited hours in line to see The Phantom Menace (Yea… I know… not as good as Empire).
Every year I at least watch a few movies, and attempt some star wars themed recipes.
Have a great Star Wars Day, and May the 4th be with you!
