Edwardsville, IL-(Effingham Radio)- In honor of America’s 250th birthday and in support of the arts in Illinois schools, State Senator Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville) is inviting 1st through 8th grade students from schools throughout the 55th Senate District to participate in a special student art contest.
The contest gives young artists an opportunity to showcase their creativity through artwork centered on the theme of celebrating the 250th birthday of the United States of America.
“America’s 250th birthday is an important opportunity for students to reflect on what makes our country, our state, and their own communities great,” said Plummer. “This contest encourages young people to express their pride, creativity, and patriotism through art, and I look forward to seeing the incredible work submitted by students across the district.”
Students may explore a variety of theme ideas, including what makes them proud of their community, what state symbols or emblems mean to them, or what makes America special, such as our founding documents, the freedoms and individuals liberties they protect and our wonderful history.
Artwork must be no larger than 8 x 10 inches. Acceptable media include markers, oil pastels, and mixed media. Each submission must include the student’s name, school name, and art teacher’s name.
Submissions may be emailed to pbuente@sgop.ilga.gov or mailed or dropped off at Senator Plummer’s district office located at 310 W. Gallatin Street in Vandalia. The deadline to submit artwork is June 18, and winners will be selected on July 4.
Winning artwork will be framed and displayed at Senator Plummer’s district office.
