
Cumberland County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 12:
WHAT:
- Two Unit Personal Injury Traffic Crash
WHERE:
- Interstate 70 eastbound milepost 109, Cumberland County
WHEN:
- Feb. 23, 2022 at approximately 4:20 a.m.
VEHICLES:
- Unit 1– 2021 White Kenworth Truck-Tractor Semi-Trailer Combination
- Unit 2- 2022 White Freightliner Truck-Tractor Semi-Trailer Combination
DRIVERS:
- Unit 1- Milton Higgs, 51-year-old male from Katy, TX – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital, and later transferred to a regional hospital with serious injuries.
- Unit 2- Floyd Emerson, 68-year-old male from Stroud, OK – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital, and later transferred to a regional hospital with serious injuries.
PRELIMINARY:
- A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling east on Interstate 70 near milepost 109 in Cumberland County. For unknown reasons, the driver of Unit 1 left the roadway to the right, over corrected and then overturned in the roadway blocking both east bound lanes. Unit 2 was traveling east at the same location. Unit 2 driver struck Unit 1 in the roadway. Unit 2 came to rest in the median. Both Unit 1 and Unit 2 drivers were transported by ambulance to an area hospital and later transferred to a regional hospital with serious injuries. The right lane remains closed at this time due to recovery and clean-up efforts. The left lane is open to traffic. This crash is still under investigation and no further information is available.
CHARGES:
- Unit 1 driver was cited for Improper Lane Usage.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
