Mattoon, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The United States Department of Labor recently awarded Lake Land College Apprenticeship Coordinator Lesa Allsop a Journeyworker Certificate, recognizing her vast industry knowledge and hands-on experience as an apprenticeship coordinator.
Allsop’s recognition comes following her completion of a registered apprenticeship program through Lake Land College and Career WayZ-USA, a workforce development nonprofit that helps build structured, nationally recognized apprenticeship programs. Over the past year, Allsop has fulfilled apprenticeship requirements by receiving structured mentorship from workforce experts at Career WayZ and applying the knowledge to her role at Lake Land College.
“This achievement represents a year of learning, growth and skill development during my apprenticeship,” Allsop said. “As I look ahead, I am excited to continue growing apprenticeship programs across all sectors where Lake Land College can make an impact and create opportunities for others to learn, grow and succeed.”
Bonnie Moore, Lake Land College Director of the Center for Business & Industry, noted that the apprenticeship experience has equipped Allsop with a deeper knowledge of dynamic workforce trends, which will help strengthen Lake Land’s apprenticeship programs and create new opportunities for local job training. Additionally, she emphasized that Allsop’s success provides a direct illustration to both students and employers of the immense value of apprenticeship.
“As we work to build apprenticeships across the Lake Land College District, we believe the best way to champion apprenticeship is to invest in it ourselves,” explained Moore. “Moving forward, we now have an expert journeyworker building our programs on campus, living proof that the apprenticeship model changes everything.”
The Journeyworker certification is a nationally recognized credential awarded to individuals who have completed a registered apprenticeship program. The certificate signals mastery of a skilled trade and qualifies recipients to work across all 50 states in their specialized industry.
Lake Land College offers registered apprenticeships across several industries, providing pathways for individuals to launch high-demand careers and helping employers recruit highly qualified talent.
