Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Regional Office of Education (ROE) #3 was honored to welcome Illinois State Senator Steve McClure of the 54th Senate District to TriStar Academy and Aspire High School on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
During his visit, Senator McClure toured the school, attended Mrs. Buck’s Civics class, joined students for lunch, and participated in a roundtable discussion with Natalie Hall (Attendance Advocate), Emily Nelson (Student Support Specialist and Dean of Students), Amber Kidd (Principal), and Kurt Roberts (Effingham High School Principal). The discussion centered around challenges students face outside of school that can impact their focus, learning, and attendance.
Senator McClure has long been dedicated to supporting schools and students across Illinois. He has championed legislation addressing teacher shortages, the COVID-19 learning gap, and the bus driver shortage, reflecting his commitment to improving education for all students.
During his visit, Senator McClure met Paisley, a senior and Student Ambassador at Aspire High School, who shared her personal story of resilience after being adopted following the passing of her biological mother. Paisley has previously spoken to various organizations, including the Effingham School Board, about how alternative education has shaped her future.

“It was a different experience speaking with Senator McClure,” said Paisley. “Most times when I tell my story, it’s in a formal setting. Talking to Senator McClure was like having a conversation with one of the teachers.” Principal Amber Kidd praised Paisley’s courage, saying, “We are proud of the work she has done in naming the trauma from her past and owning it as she moves forward toward her future.”
Students warmly welcomed Senator McClure and enjoyed engaging with him throughout the day. His visit concluded with a group photo and individual pictures with students. TriStar Academy and Aspire High School extend their gratitude to Senator McClure and welcome him back anytime.
