
Arthur, IL-(Effingham Radio)- On Monday, February 17, 2025, at 5:18 A.M., the Arthur Police Department was dispatched to a local area business for a report of a battery and possible attempted kidnapping.
On arrival, Officers located a minor female victim and an adult female witness who stated a male suspect had approached the victim from behind and had battered her. The suspect then attempted to carry the victim from the scene on foot. The witness to the incident gave chase to the suspect until the victim was released. The suspect then fled the area on foot. The victim and witness were able to return to the business to dial 911.
The victim was transported from the scene to an area hospital for treatment.
After the initial investigation and a brief search, Officers with the Arthur Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and Moultrie County Sheriff’s Office were able to locate the suspect in Lovington, IL and take him into custody without incident. He was transported to the Douglas County Jail where he was charged with Aggravated Battery and Kidnapping.
The Arthur Police Department has requested further detention of the suspect in this case, pursuant to the Illinois SAFE-T Act requirements.
