Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham Plan Commission held their regular monthly meeting and discussed a few items to be heard by the City Council. Members Brian Hayes and Clint Spruell were not present at the meeting.
The minutes of the last meeting were approved, and a preliminary and final plat was heard by the Commission.
A couple public hearings on rezoning were heard and voted for approval to be heard by the City Council, including at 801 West Jefferson, where Mark Schackmann is seeking to relocate his auction service from Fayette Avenue in lieu of the Fayette Avenue Expansion Project. The rezone would allow him to make the necessary changes to the building and lot to make the business more presentable, with better parking and a bigger sign. This was followed by an opposition letter from Patrick and Kim Keenan, who own the property to the west. Their concerns were that the change would bring in more traffic and lower their property value. The vote was 6-1 in favor of the rezoning, with Commission Member Ken Wholtman voting no. The City Council could vote on this as early as this month.
Also heard was a rezoning at a 10-acre area along Country Club Road, just off US Route 40. Developer Scott Conant is looking to put a few residential houses down in this location. This was moved forward to be heard by the City Council as well.
The next Plan Commission meeting will be July 12th.
