Effingham, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Southern Illinois State Senator Darren Bailey announced last night to a crowd of supporters in Effingham that he will seek the Republican nomination for Governor, aiming to unseat incumbent JB Pritzker in 2022 and pledging to fight for the working people, not the political elites.
“There’s nothing that’s wrong with Illinois that can’t be fixed by some conservative common sense. I’ll fight for the working people, not the political elites. Today, there is a political class that is ignoring our values and harming American families. Illinois needs a leader that is one of us.”
Bailey, a third-generation farmer from downstate, spoke about the need for a leader in Springfield whose priority is to restore Illinois, not advance their own political ambitions.
Bailey noted that, “For far too long, citizens of Illinois have been left without a voice. People in Illinois have been divided. We’ve been used. We’ve been mocked. We’ve been marginalized. People in Illinois have been ignored based on their race. They’ve been ignored based on their class. Their ZIP Code. Or by special interests. All while a political class has done absolutely nothing but enrich themselves, while destroying our state and robbing our children and our grandchildren of our future. Friends, this has got to change. And it has got to change today.”
Effingham was the first stop on Darren Bailey’s campaign kick-off bus tour, with additional stops planned in Marion, Highland, Bloomington, Utica, Loves Park, and Shorewood through February 24th. A complete schedule can be found at BaileyForIllinois.com.
