The Cardinals came back with a Díaz RBI single in the sixth to make it 2-1. The Padres added 2 more runs in the seventh with a Ramírez RBI double and a Dickerson RBI single making it 4-1. The Padres added one more run in the eighth with a Solarte solo home run. The Cardinals came back with 4 runs in the eighth thanks to a RBI single by Gyorko and a three run home run by Piscotty to tie the game at 5. The Cardinals got the win thanks to a Díaz walkoff single.
Neither starting pitchers got the decision. Wainwright was the Cardinals starter and gave up 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 8 over 6 innings. Broxton got the win in relief. Cashner was the Padres starting pitcher and gave up 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 8 over 5 and 2/3 innings.
