In a pre-trial on Thursday, Marco Perez Alamilla’s attorney requested another pre-trial date that has been tentatively set for mid July.
Alamilla’s lawyer stated that while some evidence, such as police records and first-round DNA Tests, has been gathered they would need more time and another hearing prior to the August 1st jury trial.
Alamilla is currently in custody with the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office after being arrested for alleged Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse of a victim under the age the 13. Part of his bond conditions order that he not come in contact with anyone under the age of the 18.
Effingham County Public Defender Scott Schmidt expressed Alamilla’s concern that the bond condition would prevent him from having his child visit him in prison and requested that an exception be made while he is still in custody. Representatives of the Effingham County State’s Attorney Bryan Kibler denied the request, but offered to set an earlier pre-trial date to resolve the matter. The date will likely be in July.
