Toledo, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Cumberland CUSD #77 Facebook page:
Dear Cumberland C.U.S.D. #77 Parents/Guardians/Community,
Today, a serious written threat was found at Cumberland High School. The decision was made to evacuate students from the site of where the threat was made to the closest, safest site available.
Law enforcement officials were immediately contacted and promptly responded to assist and search the property. Members of our local police department, members of the Illinois State Police, and members of a K-9 bomb squad were also on scene. A thorough search of the high school and the parking lot was made by law officials. They have given the “all clear’ and there is no imminent threat.
We take all threats seriously and want you to know that your child(s) safety is our number one priority. We have detailed safety procedures and protocol for these moments and followed those guidelines today. We also understand that procedures and protocol can always improve.
Law enforcement and the state’s attorney continue to investigate. Any student who makes threats like this will face consequences and severe disciplinary action.
After what I witnessed today, I am very proud of our community as they support the efforts to keep our students safe. I also want to thank our staff at Cumberland C.U.S.D. #77 for all of their professionalism and caring. All of their effort under a stressful situation is truly appreciated.
School is expected to be back to normal operations tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Darrell Houchin / Cumberland C.U.S.D. #77 Superintendent
