Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Effingham City Plan Commission members spent about four hours Tuesday night reviewing a proposed solar field near Dutch Lane, with no final action taken. Much of the hearing centered on testimony from Sole Source Power representatives and residents who live near the proposed site. Concerns included potential noise from the project, dust during construction, stormwater runoff, and how the development could affect neighboring property owners.
The Commission will resume discussion at a special meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. August 25. A video replay of Tuesday’s hearing is available on the City website.
In other business, commissioners approved a site plan for a new Scooter’s Coffee at 611 West Fayette Avenue. The building is planned at 669 square feet, with seven parking spaces.
They also approved an expansion plan for Fox Holler Coffee at 1200 South Banker Street. City Engineer Luke Thoele said the project would add 5,268 square feet to the northeast corner of the building, with interior changes to allow for a kitchen, sit-down dining, and 28 parking spaces.
Commissioners also recommended City Council approval of rezoning Stacey Durbin’s property along South U.S. Route 45 from general commercial to light industrial. Discussion of the Oxford House Volta special use permit was continued until September.
