
Vandalia, IL-(Vandalia Radio)- The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has released a statement on a matter brought to their attention earlier this week.
On the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page, it states On July 29th, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of allegations of sexual misconduct involving a correctional deputy and an inmate within the Fayette County Jail. The release states that upon receiving this information, the administration took immediate steps to transfer the inmate to another correctional facility. They say the transfer ensures the safety and well-being of the inmate, while protecting the neutrality of the ongoing inquiry. The correctional deputy has been arrested, charged and transferred to another county jail for holding. The release goes on to state that in order to maintain transparency and eliminate any conflict of interest, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office immediately contacted the Illinois State Police Investigations. The Sheriff’s Office has requested that ISP Investigations act as the lead agency investigating the allegations.
The release goes on to state the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office takes all allegations of staff misconduct with the utmost seriousness. And, they say their priority is maintaining a safe, secure environment and upholding the public trust. They also add they will cooperate fully with the Illinois State Police as they conduct a thorough and independent investigation. N
