Chicago, IL-(Effingham Radio)- A federal judge is dismissing a lawsuit filed by the Trump administration against Illinois. The suit sought to block the enforcement of so-called “sanctuary city” policies that restrict local officials from helping federal immigration authorities.
The judge ruled Illinois’ sanctuary laws are protected by the 10th Amendment and the administration lacked the standing to sue. The 10th Amendment declares any powers not given to the federal government, and also not denied to the states, are therefore given to the states. This comes a day after the Trump administration filed a lawsuit against New York City over its sanctuary policies.
