Newton Gets The Win Over Altamont 54-47

On Tuesday night Newton traveled to Altamont and came away with a nice win over the Indians 54-47.

In the first half it was the Parker Wolf show for Newton. As the junior took control of the game in the opening quarter. Wolf and Altamont’s Logan Cornett were going basket for basket. With Wolf getting the edge scoring 11 in the first quarter all on his own. However it was three pointers from Mason Robinson and Wyatt Philips, who gave the lead for Altamont by one after one 16-15.

Altamont’s offense went cold in the second quarter being held to just five the entire quarter. While Wolf would continue to pour in the points and finish with 17 in the first half.  The Eagles would outscore the Indians 15-5 in the second period. The half was finished off as the Altamont defense keying in on Wolf, only to find and open Dylan Gier for the easy basket to close out the half with the 30-21 lead in Newton’s favor.

Altamont would play their best quarter in the third. As the Indians would mount a comeback with some free throws by Robinson and a three from Dillan Elam. Altamont would close out the third with an emotional 7-0 run. Punctuated by a big and 1 from Keinon Eirhart coming off a sweet behind the back pass from Robinson to cut the deficit 39-33 after three.

With the crowd and bench back into it,  the fourth quarter belonged to the Eagles and junior Caden Nichols. As the Altamont defense held Wolf in check only scoring two in the second half. Nichols would score nine in quarter, most coming at the free throw line. Altamont would only get within four after trailing double digits in the second half.  Newton would finish it off with free throws to make it a 54-47 final.

Altamont drops to 2-2 on the season. Indians are back in action on Friday for the first NTC game against South Central.

Newton improves to 5-1  on the season. Eagles are back in action Friday as well hosting North Clay.
