Tessa Philpot (Above), St. Elmo, won the election to serve as the 2018-2019 student trustee for Lake Land College. She will represent the student body on the Lake Land College Board of Trustees.
Mattoon, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Lake Land College student body selected Tessa Philpot, St. Elmo, as its 2018-2019 student trustee. The student trustee serves on the Lake Land College Board of Trustees, representing the student body in policy and decision making.
“The biggest reason why I wanted to be student trustee was to be the voice of Lake Land students who feel they have no voice,” Philpot said.
Philpot said that as student trustee, she hopes to put student concerns and perspectives first in the decision making process at Lake Land.
“I hope to become a true liaison between the student body of Lake Land College and the board of trustees,” Philpot said. “I believe that our students should be at the center of almost every decision made here on campus.”
Philpot, the daughter of Brady Philpot and Deborah Rook Philpot, graduated from St. Elmo High School in 2017. At Lake Land, she has served as a Student Ambassador, freshman delegate for the Student Government Association and secretary to the executive board for the National Society of Leadership and Success. Philpot served the community as a Special Olympics friend for the day and blood drive volunteer. She also helps clean up local parks and assisted with the Brownstown/St. Elmo Sports Boosters Fish Fry.
