(Springfield, IL) — The Illinois House is all but demanding to know just how many unpaid bills the state really has. Lawmakers yesterday unanimously overrode Governor Rauner’s veto of the so-called Debt Transparency Act. The proposal would force state government to report on spending and unpaid bills every month, as opposed to just once a year. Illinois’ Comptroller says regular reporting will avoid the old habit of holding unpaid bills in state agencies until the last minute.
