A North Carolina man was arrested in Mattoon Tuesday night after an altercation with a police officer in the 100 block of Miller Road.
35 year old Bradley E. Benfield, of Huntersville, North Carolina, allegedly caused a disturbance at a local gas station. Deputy Police Chief Jason Taylor said that Benfield was in a domestic dispute with a female which prompted the call to police. Upon their arrival Benfield allegedly punched an officer in the jaw. He then resisted arrest and a squad car windshield was damaged in the struggle. Benfield received minor injuries in the confrontation and was treated before being released to authorities.
Benfield is charged with Disorderly Conduct, Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer, Resisting a Police Officer, and Criminal Damage to State Supported Property.
