State Representative David Reis was appointed as an Assistant House Republican Leader by House Republican Leader Jim Durkin. Reis, who represents Illinois 109th district said he was honored to accept the post at this critical moment in the state’s history.
“I’m very grateful to have the trust of Leader Durkin and my colleagues in the House. I consider it an honor to serve in a House Leadership position. Most important in my mind though, is that the residents of my district will have their voice heard on major issues facing the state. Southern Illinois will have a seat at the negotiating table while we work to resolve our budgetary issues,” Reis said.
Rep. Reis currently serves on the Governor’s Education Funding Reform Commission and as a member of the Downstate Sportsman’s Caucus. He said that serving in house leadership would be an opportunity to have a greater platform for southern Illinois issues.
“In my role as Assistant Republican Leader, I will focus on promoting energy exploration and dealing with our transportation and budgetary needs in southern Illinois,” Reis said. “We’ve made some gains for our energy industry through fracking regulations and I was part of the effort to pass a capital projects bill to help with infrastructure needs. There is a lot of work to do to address our budget deficit and the current impasse, and I want to ensure southern Illinois has a say in what happens going forward.”
Republican Leader Durkin commented on Reis’ commitment to his constituents.
“David Reis is a strong voice for southern Illinois families,” Leader Durkin stated. “David has always fought for the priorities and values of his constituents. He’s a leader on agricultural and energy issues at the State Capitol and I am pleased to have him on my leadership team.”
