Flora, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Clay County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page:
On October 7, 2026, at approximately 3:28 p.m. the Clay County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence on Persimmon Dr. The reported suspect had multiple outstanding felony warrants, a history of flight, a history of violence, and it had also been reported that he was possibly in possession of a firearm recently. While deputies were responding to the residence, they received information that the suspect had fled on foot. The drone was deployed and the suspect was located immediately in a nearby field. Due to the dry conditions deputies were able to drive across the field to approach the suspect in their squads. The suspect was attempting to flee and continued to do so when the deputies encountered him in the field. The suspect was given orders to stop, or he would be bit by a K-9. The suspect ignored the orders and continued to run. K-9 Chief was released and was commanded to apprehend the suspect, which was successful. The suspect was taken into custody and continued to resist deputies when they were attempting to place him in the squad car. The suspect received minor cuts and scratches from his encounter with the K-9, and received treatment from EMS and was later transported to a local hospital per office policy.
As a result of this incident and ongoing investigations by the Flora Police Department, Hunter D. Allen, 25, of Flora, was arrested on Clay County Warrants, for the offenses of Burglary, Theft (less than $500), Possession of Another’s Debit Card, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer (x2), and new charges of Resisting Arrest (x2). Allen is currently incarcerated in the Clay County Jail awaiting his first appearance in court.
“Deploying a K-9 to apprehend a suspect is a decision that our office and handlers take very seriously. All known factors must be carefully considered, sometimes in seconds, before making the decision on whether or not to deploy the K-9. Our office is grateful to have the resources that we have been provided that allowed us to take this offender off the streets safely. I am proud of the approach, the effort, and the time my staff spent in making this arrest.”
