Michael J. Meyer, 79, of Effingham, passed away on September 9, 2026. Born to the late Robert and Peggy Jean Meyer on June 13, 1947, Mike grew up in the Chicagoland area but made Effingham his home for most of his adult life.
Mike was the beloved husband of Kathy; devoted stepfather to Tanya (Dean) Tyska; proud grandfather to Dylan and Sam Tyska; cherished brother to Ron (Mary Beth) and Dirk (Jeanne); and beloved uncle to Molly (Daniel) O’Neil and Erin, Christine and Lisa Meyer.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mike proudly served his country before embarking on a distinguished career in law. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Illinois and his Juris Doctor from John Marshall Law School, where he finished second in his class.
Mike practiced law for more than 50 years and for decades owned and operated his own law practice in Effingham. The law was more than his profession; it was a passion and an important part of his life.
Outside the office, Mike loved golf and spent many happy hours on the course. He also enjoyed coaching youth baseball and was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan. His life was grounded in a strong faith and a deep commitment to his family, his church and his country.
Mike will be deeply missed by his family, friends, clients and the many people whose lives he touched throughout his years in the Effingham community. He will be remembered for his sharp mind, his devotion to the law, his faith and the things and people he loved most.
