
Shelby County County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- At 4:06 pm on September 14, 2026 the Effingham County Coroner’s office was called to HSHS St. Anthony Hospital Emergency Room in Effingham, Illinois reference to a deceased male that was involved in a motorcycle/car crash on Rt. 32 in Stewardson, Illinois at approximately 2:45 pm.
Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes and Deputy Coroner Lauren Heuerman responded to the emergency room and identified the deceased individual as Keith Rentfro, age 75 of Stewardson, Illinois.
The Illinois State Police, Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, Stewardson Police Department and the ISP Reconstruction Unit were at the scene of the crash in Stewardson.
Preliminary investigation indicated that Keith Rentfro was riding his motorcycle southbound on Rt. 32 when a vehicle driven by Patty Renner of Stewardson pulled out of the Phillips 66 gas station to go north on Rt. 32. The vehicles collided and Keith Rentfro was thrown from the motorcycle. He was taken to St. Anthony Hospital and was pronounced deceased at 3:47pm. Patty Renner was not injured in the crash.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16th at 10:30 am at the McLean County Coroner’s Office in Bloomington, Illinois to determine the official cause of death.
The incident remains under investigation by the Effingham County Coroner’s Office and the Illinois State Police -Troop 7 in Pesotum, Illinois and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.
