Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Effingham City Council members Tuesday reviewed early plans for a renovated Heart Theatre, with Heart board members Amy Van Bergen, Kenny Thies and Carrie Rodman outlining the vision.

There were many local residents in attendance Tuesday evening.

Van Bergen emphasized the group was not seeking a vote or city funding at this stage. She said community survey results showed residents do not want the Heart restored simply as a single-screen movie theater, but as a multi-purpose venue. Thies described the effort as an investment in Effingham’s future. The proposed space would host events of up to 200 people, offering smaller, more intimate programming than the Effingham Performance Center. Heart leaders plan to meet with EPC board members next week to discuss collaboration.
City officials encouraged more discussion before any decisions are made.
