Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Every year the Effingham County 40 & 8, V-1439 presents Nurse’s Training Scholarships to selected Effingham County High School Seniors. This year one student was at Altamont High School and the other was at Dieterich High School.
Altamont Senior Hope Roedl and Dieterich Senior Jacey Hayes received their scholarships from Chef de Gare (Commander) Ralph Rounds. The scholarships are normally $1,200 over three years but due to a generous donation from the Effingham County Marine Corps League the scholarships are now $3,000. The 40 & 8 also received some funds from the Patrica West and the Elaine Ashley estates.
The scholarships are named as a “Memorial Scholarships” to honor the deceased members of the Effingham Co 40 & 8. This year the scholarships were named in honor of George Lybarger & Richard Niebrugge.
Roedl’s scholarship was named for in honor of George Lybarger. George Lybarger had served in the United States Navy and retired from the service. While with the 40 & 8 George was Chef de Gare and enjoyed the “Flags for 1st Graders” program. His many years to the 40 & 8 were greatly appreciated and are missed.
Hayes’s scholarship was named in honor of Richard Niebrugge. Richard Niebrugge served in the National Guard. He too supported the 40 & 8 programs and assisting his fellow veterans. Like Mr. Lybarger, Mr. Niebrugge was a member of the 40 & 8 for many years and his service is missed.
Hope will be attending Lake Land Community College and she is the daughter of Hona & Robert Roedl. What makes this scholarship special to Hope is she will become a third-generation nurse. Her mother Hona (Siebert) Roedl served as a nurse for many years. While her grandmother Bert Siebert served as a nurse for 48 years.
Jacey will also be attending Lake Land Community College and she is the daughter of Jason & Mary Hayes. Jacey like Hope is not the only family member in the nursing field. Hope’s sister Alix Hayes will be receiving her nurse certification this year while Jacey’s dad, Jason Hayes, is currently serving as a nurse.
These two young ladies are the 121st & 122nd scholarship recipients of the Nurse’s Training Scholarship. The members of V-1439 offer their best wishes to Hope & Jacey for a great success.
