Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The 5th District Appellate Court has sided with the City of Effingham in the ongoing dispute over Village Square Mall. This decision marks a significant step forward after months of legal hold-ups which began when former owner Durga Property Holdings challenged the auction sale, blocking redevelopment efforts by new local owners Square Southtown.
The earlier circuit court ruling also favored the City, but Durga escalated the matter to the appeals court, causing further delays. Durga now has until mid-June to seek a review from the Illinois Supreme Court. The City is expected to issue an official statement soon.
