Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Insurance coverage took center stage at Monday’s Effingham County Board Administrative Committee meeting, as members discussed the potential benefits of municipalities and townships partnering with the county for insurance. The group agreed to study whether a combined employee pool would create advantageous rates, and plans to gauge interest from other governmental entities. The committee also debated seeking new bids for liability insurance coverage to ensure competitive pricing.
In other business, support for local fireworks displays advanced: $1k is slated for the Noon Rotary’s city show, $3k earmarked for Lake Sara, and a request to raise Dieterich’s funding to $2k from last year’s $1500.
Revisions to a proposed nuisance ordinance were approved for full County Board review. A recommendation was made to name the airport board room in memory of Tony Siemer, who contributed more than five decades to the County Airport Authority. The committee further discussed the county’s role in securing rural transportation funds overseen by CEFS.
Salary increases for key elected officials—including the county clerk, circuit clerk, treasurer, and supervisor of assessments—were recommended, with a 4% hike in the first year and 3.5% annual increases over the next three. Appointments were also endorsed for John Taylor and Jim Ping to the County Board of Review, and Sasha Althoff to the Economic Development Advisory Board.
