Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- At approximately 6:15 pm on Friday May 1, 2026 the Effingham City Police Department and Rural Med EMS received a call of an unresponsive individual at the Petro Truck Stop in Effingham, Illinois. Officers responded and located the vehicle near the gas pumps. The driver advised officers that he and his wife were transporting his wife’s sister (who was on hospice) from Michigan to Texas to live with her sister. When they stopped at the truck stop to give her medication, they found her unresponsive. Rural Med EMS assisted at the truck stop. The coroner’s office was notified and responded to the truck stop.
The deceased individual identified as Bonny L. Blue, age 68 and was taken to the Effingham County Morgue to continue the investigation. Bonny previously told the family she wanted to donate her body to science at a medical school.
Due to certain immediate criteria to be a donation, the coroner’s office contacted the SIU School of Medicine who accepted the donation on Friday evening. Bonny Blue was transported to SIU this morning.
The family was very appreciative of the Effingham Police Officers and the Rural Med personnel who assisted them at the scene during this tragic event.
They were also thankful that SIU School of Medicine in Carbondale fulfilled her wishes to be donated to science.
Medical information from his family, hospice and primary physician were requested by the coroner’s office. No foul play was involved and her death was classified as “Natural”.
