
Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham City Council has approved a $45.6 million general fund budget for the new fiscal year, highlighting ongoing investment in development and infrastructure. The council authorized the platting of Heritage Crossing Subdivision, paving the way for 18 new single-family homes. Three new home permits were also issued in the last quarter, though officials noted more housing is needed.
A 2% annual increase in water rates over the next four years was passed. In infrastructure, the city will cover $1.14 million for a sanitary sewer replacement tied to the Phase II Fayette Avenue reconstruction project. Downtown beautification continues with nearly $47K allocated for flower baskets.
Community efforts include a citywide tree planting event this Saturday at City Hall and renewed incentives for business area redevelopment and housing under TIF. Property acquisitions were also finalized to extend Airport Road.
Appointments filled seats across fire, police, library, and tourism boards. Planning is also underway for July 4th celebrations, with local groups requesting extra funding to mark America’s 250th anniversary.
