Louisville, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Clay County Courthouse was the site of discussion for a celebration for the anniversary of the county’s founding. Clay County was recognized by the state on December 23, 1824, and the Bi-Centennial Committee is planning ways to celebrate.
July 5th, 2025 is the date they plan to hold the celebration, which will take place on the square in Louisville. Ideas were floated about what to have at the celebration, including food trucks, a walkthrough of Clay County’s history, and embroidered plates and/or cups. There was discussion on how to get the students from each Clay County school involved. Keith Price, Superintendent of North Clay, was in attendance and came up with ideas such as a contest for high school students to come up with a Bi-Centennial logo for the celebration, and coloring contests for elementary level students.
Amy Britton, Clay County Clerk, was also in attendance and said the biggest hurdle right now is to make sure all towns and townships are part of the historical celebration. She said they have not even heard from representatives for certain parts of the county, and she said getting the word out about this planned celebration is key to making sure it is a success. Amy said that she will be reaching out to representatives she has contact info for, but encouraged anyone looking to get involved. Whether it be to volunteer or provide more history on the County, contact her at the Courthouse at 618-665-3626.
The next meeting will be on May 28th at 6pm in the Clay County Courthouse.
