On January 25th at around 8:41am, the Charleston Police Department responded to Carl Sandburg Elementary School for an intruder alarm.
Upon arrival, Carl Sandburg administrators advised the school had gone into their safety lockdown protocol. The school was cleared by police, confirming there to be no immediate danger to staff and students, releasing them from lockdown.
Police remained on scene to speak with staff and students about the incident. It was confirmed to be a false alarm/technical issue and is being resolved by the district.
The Charleston Police Department was assisted by Eastern Illinois Police, Sheriff Martin, and Mattoon Police.
