ISP Investigating Fatal Crash In Champaign County

Champaign County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police Troop 7:

WHAT:                      

• Two Vehicle Fatal Traffic Crash

WHERE: 

• US Route 150 near 1550 North, Champaign County

WHEN:

• April 30, 2023 at approximately 8:38 p.m.

VEHICLES:

• Unit 1- 2004 Gray Buick
• Unit 2- 2015 White Hyundai

DRIVERS:                 

• Unit 1- Rebecca Gerald, 62-year-old female from St. Joseph, IL – Deceased
• Unit 2- 15-year-old female from Homer, IL – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

PASSENGER:           

• Unit 2- William Wallace, 47-year-old male from Homer, IL – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

PRELIMINARY:      

• The preliminary investigation indicates the following:  Unit 1 was traveling west on US Route 150 approaching 1550 North in Champaign County. Unit 2 was traveling east at the same location. The driver of Unit 1 crossed the center of the roadway and struck Unit 2. The driver of Unit 1 was pronounced deceased on scene by the Champaign County Coroner. The driver and passenger of Unit 2 were both transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The roadway was closed for approximately 6 hours for the crash investigation. No further information is available.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
