ISP Fatal Traffic Crash In Vermillion County

Vermillion County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 10:

WHAT:

• Two Vehicle Fatal Traffic Crash

WHERE:                   

• US Highway 150, just east of Olmstead Road, near Oakwood, Vermillion County

WHEN:

• October 5, 2022 at approximately 4:05 p.m.

VEHICLES:              

• Unit 1 – 2022 Red Dodge Charger
• Unit 2 – 2020 Gray GMC Sierra Truck

DRIVERS:                 

• Unit 1 – 68-year-old male from Danville, IL – Deceased (Name release pending next-of-kin notification).
• Unit 2 – Michael A. Palmer, 35-year-old male from Danville, IL – Transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

PRELIMINARY:     

• A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling east on US Highway 50, just east of Olmstead Road.  Unit 2 was traveling west on US Highway 50 at the same location.  Unit 1 was traveling behind a vehicle, passed it, and struck Unit 2 head-on.  The driver of Unit 1 was pronounce deceased on scene.  The driver of Unit 2 was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  All lanes were reopened at approximately 7:25 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation and no further information is available.
