ISP Investigating Fatal Crash In Coles County

Coles County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 10:

WHAT:

• Two Vehicle Fatal Traffic Crash

WHERE:

• US Route 45 at Coles County 250N, Coles County

WHEN:

• May 12, 2022 at 4:55 p.m.

VEHICLES:

• Unit 1 – White 2015 Ford F650 Tow Truck
• Unit 2 – Blue 1994 Harley-Davidson Motorcycle

DRIVERS:

• Unit 1 – Wesley A. Doty, a 51-year-old male from Mattoon, IL – Refused medical attention.
• Unit 2 – Michael J. McKenna, a 69-year-old male from Mattoon, IL – Deceased

PRELIMINARY:                 

• Preliminary investigative details indicate the following occurred: Unit 1 was stopped, facing southbound, on US Route 45, waiting to make a left turn onto Coles County 250N. Unit 2 was traveling north on US Route 45 at the same location. Unit 1 turned left into the path of Unit 2. Unit 2 struck the passenger side of Unit 1. The driver of Unit 2 was airlifted to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of Unit 1 refused medical attention. The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation. No further information will be disseminated.

CHARGES:                         

• Doty was cited for Failure to Yield and Driving Out of Classification.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
