Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham City Council discussed numerous items during their Tuesday meeting, including renewing numerous contracts with different agencies, and discussion of liquor licenses for Lucia’s Italian Kitchen and Maria’s Taco House. One item that was discussed, however, was the funding for a new Showcase Center, which will be located by Evergreen Hollow Park, or east of the Workman Sports Complex.
The Effingham City Council voted to pay up to half of the cost for the new complex. One of the parts of the complex includes a massive dome arena that could be used for many different games, including baseball, tennis, and volleyball.
The first step is a feasibility study. The City and the Effingham Regional Growth Alliance have agreed to pay up to half of the cost for the study. The plan at the moment is to get an experienced hand to oversee the economics. The same person who did the economics for the Workman Complex and the then Rosebud Theater, now the Effingham Performance Center.
A final decision will be made at the next City Council meeting on April 19th.
