Marion County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 12:
WHAT:
- Two Vehicle Personal Injury Traffic Crash
WHERE:
- Illinois Route 37 at Sassafras Road, Marion County
WHEN:
- March 23, 2022 at approximately 4:15 p.m.
VEHICLES:
- Unit 1– White 2008 Kia Sorento
- Unit 2- Black 1995 Jeep Wrangler
DRIVERS:
- Unit 1- Riley E. Anderson, 22-year-old female from Iuka, IL
- Unit 2- Angela D. Waggoner, 47-year-old female from Kell, IL – Transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
PASSENGER:
- Unit 2 – A 14-year-old female from Kell, IL – Transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
PRELIMINARY:
- A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling southbound behind Unit 2 on IL Rt. 37 at Sassafras Road. Unit 2 slowed to make a left hand turn onto Sassafras Road. The driver of Unit 1 was distracted by her cell phone, failed to reduce speed, and struck Unit 2 in the rear. Unit 2 left the roadway to the left, struck a culvert, and overturned onto the driver’s side. The driver and passenger of Unit 2 were transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of Unit 1 reported no injuries.
CHARGES:
- The driver of Unit 1 was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident and Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Using an Electronic Communication Device.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
