Effingham County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 12:
WHAT:
- Two Vehicle Personal Injury Traffic Crash
WHERE:
- Interstate 57 northbound at milepost 156, Effingham County
WHEN:
- Feb. 3, 2022 at approximately 10:13 a.m.
VEHICLE:
- Unit 1 – White 2015 Chevrolet 3500 HD Truck
- Unit 2 – Maroon 2020 Freightliner Truck Tractor Semi-Trailer
DRIVER:
- Unit 1 – Diego R. Valdez, 38-year old male from Pharr, TX – Transported to an area hospital with injuries.
- Unit 2 – Coty A. Tolliver, 31-year-old male from Grayson, KY – Transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
PRELIMINARY:
- A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 2 had been involved in a previous crash and was stopped on the shoulder of Interstate 57 northbound at milepost 156 in backed up traffic. Unit 1 in attempt to avoid other traffic went onto the shoulder and rear-ended Unit 2’s trailer. Unit 1 wedged under Unit 2’s trailer. Unit 1 driver had to be extricated from the vehicle.
CHARGES:
- Unit 1 driver was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid and Accident.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
