Altamont, IL -(Effingham Radio)- On Tuesday morning Altamont High School senior Allyson Hardiek signed her letter of intent to continue her basketball career at Saint Mary of the Woods College located in Terre Haute Indiana. On why Allyson chose Saint Mary of the Woods “I really loved their campus and their school is really small like our high school here so it felt like home” Hardiek said.
“Well one of the things we really liked was just her work ethic and her athleticism to start ” said SMWC Head Basketball coach Bob Belf. “The fact she was a guard turned tall is very attractive cause now she can play multiple postilions.” Belf continued to say, “I just see a huge ceiling for her because she can do so many things, I don’t even know where I’m going to play her but I know it will be on the floor.”
Altamont Lady Indians Head Basketball Coach Katie Lurkins talked about what kind of player that SMWC was getting: “Her versatility is just huge from an athletic standpoint, her length and height allow her to go in post up down low on the low block but then she can also use her ball skills and shooting skills and run point and step up and shot the three.” “So they are getting a kid that is going to continue to get stronger and continue to get quicker and i really feel like her best basketball years are still to come.” “She is just a great kid she is the one that volunteers every year to help me coach the 3rd and 4th grade lions club team. She’s the one you can make eye contact with and she gives you a smirk and you know exactly and what she’s thinking, she knows when to be serious and she knows when to be fun, she knows when to lead her presence has had such a huge impact on our success this year.”
Oh and hey if you wonder what makes players want to play for Coach Belf well maybe it has something to do with his lets just say up tempo style of offense. “We like to play up tempo, well actually extreme up tempo, we are trying to put up a 100 points a night. We shoot the ball a lot its green light for everyone right now we are averaging 50 threes attempted a game, and we are trying to get that up to get that up to around 60 or 62. Belf finished by saying “She has a great head on her shoulders and she is going to be a great addition to what we do.”
