Louisville, IL -(Effingham Radio)-State Rep. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia) is urging everyone to learn more about breast cancer during ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’ in October.
Statistically, one in eight women and one in 100 men will develop breast cancer during their lifetime.
“We all have mothers, grandmothers, sisters, wives, daughters, aunts, and cousins who may have to deal with this disease at some time in their lives and we all need to know more about it to be able to
understand and deal with it if it impacts our own family,” Rep. Bailey commented.
While you cannot prevent cancer, it is important to be proactive about your health. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, there are both genetic factors as well as environmental and lifestyle factors that play a role in breast cancer. Genetic factors include such things as gender, age, race, family history, personal health history, menstrual and reproductive history. The environmental and lifestyle factors include things like a lack of physical activity, poor diet, drinking alcohol, and radiation or hormone replacement therapies.
Rep. Bailey added that one of the best resources to learn more is the National Breast Cancer Foundation with information online at www.nationalbreastcancer.org.
